Yes, you can upload Soundtracks and Musical Theater releases to TuneCore! There are formatting guidelines that your release must meet to be approved for distribution, so please make sure you meet all of the applicable requirements. Please note that soundtracks are not eligible for Meta or YouTube Content ID monetization.
The Soundtrack genre should only be used on actual soundtracks and scores for TV Shows, Movies, Video Games, or Musicals. Each category has slightly different formatting requirements.
TV Show, Film, and Video Game Soundtracks and Scores
If your full-length soundtrack or score accompanies a TV Show, Film, or Video Game, the title must include version information to identify the release as a soundtrack. There are many allowable variations of this information. Some examples include:
- Title (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
- Title (Original Motion Picture Score)
- Title (Music from [SERIES NAME] Season 1)
- Title (Music from the Original TV Series)
- Title (Original Video Game Soundtrack)
- Title (Original Game Soundtrack)
If your release is a single from a TV Show, Film, or Video Game soundtrack or score, the title must include version information indicating what piece of media the song is pulled from. Some examples include:
- Title (From Grey’s Anatomy: Season 1)
- Title (From The Minions Movie Soundtrack)
- Title (From “Ghostbusters”)
- Title (From Bioshock: The Original Game Soundtrack)
Soundtrack/Score Artist Crediting Requirements
- For a Soundtrack, performers of individual tracks should be credited appropriately. If the performer is consistent on every track throughout the entire project, they should be credited as Primary Artist at the album level. If there are different Primary artists on every track, “Various Artists” is acceptable.
- For an Instrumental Score, the Composer of the score must be credited as Primary Artist and Composer at the album level and on all tracks. Any additional performers may be listed at the track level. “Various Artists” is NOT acceptable.
Musical Theater Recordings
If you are submitting a full-length Musical cast recording, you must include version information to indicate the production from which this music was sourced. Some examples include:
- Title (Original Broadway Cast Recording)
- Title (New Broadway Cast Recording)
- Title (Music from the Off-Broadway Show)
- Title (Music From “[INSERT MUSICAL NAME]”)
NOTE: Your title should not use the word “Original” if it is not from the original staging or release of the production.
If you are submitting a single from a Musical cast recording, you must include version information to indicate which cast recording this song is from. Some examples include:
- Title (From the Original Cast Recording of “HAIR”)
- Title (From Hamilton)
- Title (From the New Musical “Lysistrata Jones”)
Musical Theater Artist Crediting Requirements
- The Composer and Lyricist of a production should be credited as Primary Artist at the album level. They must also be credited with their appropriate contributor role at the album level (Composer or Lyricist).
- DO NOT credit the Composer or Lyricist as Primary Artist at the track level. They must only be credited on each track with their appropriate contributor role (Composer or Lyricist).
- Vocalists must be credited as Primary Artists at the track level, NOT the album level.
- If a number heavily features a group or ensemble in addition to individual performers, track-level Primary Artist names like “Original Cast of [INSERT SHOW NAME]” or “Original Broadway Cast of [INSERT SHOW NAME]” are allowable in addition to individual vocalist crediting.
- Similarly, if a number is a full-length group/ensemble number, the customer may use artist names like “Original Cast of [INSERT SHOW NAME]” as the only Track-level Primary Artist.
